Agnes G. (Reasor) Olmstead

Agnes G. (Reasor) Olmstead, 79, of Atlanta, a former food editor of The Atlanta Constitution: and retired director of consumer affairs for Colonial Stores, died Monday of cancer at Piedmont Hospital. She was 79. The memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Peachtree Christian Church, and burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend, Ind.
Mrs. Olmstead was food editor of The Atlanta Constitution in the early 1950s. She joined Colonial Stores in 1952 as director of home economics in seven states. In 1970, she was named corporate director of consumer affairs for the grocery store chain.
Agnes Reasor was born on Sept. 17, 1909, in Mrs. Olmstead South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Edward I. Reasor and Elizabeth Schneck Reasor.
She was a graduate of Purdue University. Mrs. Olmstead established Colonial Stores' quality control and recipe test kitchen and was the host of a homemaking program seen on 19 television stations in the Southeast for two years.
Her work with educators and students enabled Colonial Stores to win the Seventeen magazine Rose Award. She also did home economics work for Swift & Co., the Cereal Institute and the Norge Corp. Mrs. Olmstead was the home economist at the U.S. exhibit at the International Trade Fair in Yugoslavia.
While writing for The Constitution, she was given national home economics journalism awards by the American Meat Institute and the Grocery Manufacturers Association. In 1971, she was named Atlanta's Woman of the Year in Business. She was chairman of the consumer advisory committee of the National Association of Food Chains for 15 years. Mrs. Olmstead was a deacon at Peachtree Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Earl R. Olmstead; two brothers, Arthur F. Reasor and Richard R. Reasor, both of South Bend, Ind.; and two sisters, Marjory L. Jackson and Ruth E. VanMeter, both of South Bend, Ind.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that contributions be made to the stewardship fund at Peachtree Christian Church.
