Ruby L (Pope) Fischbach

Ruby Louise (Pope) Fischbach, 97, residing on Northside Boulevard, South Bend, passed away at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2005, in Evangelical Retirement Home, Saline, Ml. She was born July 25, 1908, in New Castle, IN, to Omar and Ida (Reece) Pope, and had been a resident of South Bend most of her life.
On June 7, 1928, in Rochester, IN, she married Glenn Thomas Fischbach. Together they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing on May 12, 1985.
Mrs. Fischbach is survived by two sons, Frederick F. (Marylouise) Fischbach and R. Curtis Fischbach, both of Ann Arbor, Ml; four grandchildren, Brett (Cappy) Fischbach of Baldwin, Ml, Cort (Maureen) Fischbach of Hamburg, Ml, Kristin (Harold) Holcomb of Chelsea, Ml, and Dirk (Katy) Fischbach of Saline, Ml. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Skylar Smith, Evan and Colwyn Fischbach; her sister-in-law, Eudoxie Pope of Mishawaka; one nephew, Norman Pope; and two nieces, Crystal Rubenstein and Carol Thornton.
Ruby was a busy, committed, longtime member of South Side Church of God, and was active with the church's seniors group, the "Speeders." She considered her support and participation with the church and its activities as a focal point in her life. Ruby was versatile with many crafts, including weaving, embroidery and needlepoint. She had remained busy with these well into her 90s. She had a longtime association with the Embroidery Guild of America and Fernwood, Inc.
Ruby and Glenn had originally lived in the Chicago area, and in 1941 they moved to South Bend where Ruby had her residence ever since. Three years ago, Ruby entered the Evangelical Home, Saline, Ml, where she passed away on Friday, August 19 (27 years to the day after the passing of her own mother, Ida Pope, on August 19, 1978). She was also preceded in death by her father, Omar Pope in 1963; and by her brother, Virgil F. Pope on February 26, 1976.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street. Rev. Greg D. Crump, pastor of South Side Church of God, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday in the funeral home.
