Raymond S. Andrysiak

SOUTH BEND - Raymond S. Andrysiak, 83, of 16579 Berry Ave., Mishawaka, a city engineer for 18 years, died about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in his home.
Mr. Andrysiak was city engineer under six different mayors, beginning with the administration of F. Kenneth Dempsey in 1946. As such, he supervised public works that ended the stagnation of World War II and moved engineering and planning into the postwar period with sewer, street and drainage projects that left their mark on the city.
Mr. Andrysiak received the 1974 Jaycees Good Government Award in recognition of a "dedicated public servant who has made substantial contributions to the community, but who is not usually in the light of public recognition."
He was born May 12, 1907, in South Bend and attended the old Linden school, St. Stanislaus parochial school, South Bend Central High School and Purdue University. He worked some 30 years in city service, 18 of them as city engineer.
He is survived by five sisters, Melvina Young and Bernice Kwaitt, both of Mishawaka, Stephanie Andrews and Florence Andrews, both of Fort Wayne, and Jean Hunt of Lima, Ohio.
He was a member and usher of the church, American Legion Pulaski Post 357, M.R. Falcons, and was a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Jude's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Pulaski Post 357. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Home Care, 711 E.
