Julius B. "Bus" Christman, Jr., 90, of Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center, died on Sunday, Jan 10. Bus was born on March 21, 1908, in South Bend, Ind., to Emma (Beck) and Julius B. Christman, Sr. On Dec. 22, 1935, in Winchester, Ind., he married Mary Hollingsworth, who died on Sept. 24, 1993.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Julius B., Ill.

Bus is survived by two daughters, Mary Margaret Pafford of Houston, Texas and Julianna Christman of New Paltz, N.Y.; two sisters, Mathilde McKinney of Franconia, N.H. and Ruth Lee of Mishawaka, Ind.; two brothers, Charles of South Bend and William of Niles, Mich.; and by nine grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Bus retired as vice-president of South Bend Sand and Gravel Company. Bus was a member of Zion United Church of Christ; Portage Lodge No. 675 F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, 33 degree; member and manager of the Scottish Rite Choir for many years; York Rite Bodies; South Bend Turners; Shrine Temple; South Bend Shrine Club; and the Order of Jesters. Bus was a graduate of Purdue University. He was a former City Councilman from the 1st District.

Services for Bus will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. W. Robert Manning officiating. Memorials in Bus' name may be made to Zion Endowed Scholarship Fund, 715 E. Wayne Street, South Bend, IN 46617. Welsheimer Funeral Home handled arrangements for the family.
