Benedict Jacob Nowak
July 16, 1917 - April 25, 1997
Benedict J. Nowak, 79, of North Walnut Street, South Bend, died at 9:42 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1917, in South Bend to Jacob and Pauline (Piechocki) Nowak, who preceded him in death. Mr. Nowak lived in the South Bend area all of his life.
He retired from the Bendix Corp. after 42 years of service.
Surviving Mr. Nowak are his sister, Harriett L. Roytek of Westland, Mich., his nieces and nephews, Joan DeMerchant of Kansas City, Mo., Tom Roytek of Smyrna, Ga., Marilyn Sambrano of Detroit, Mich., Peg Roytek of Huntington Woods, Mich., Dave Nowak of Milwaukee, Wis., Jackie NowakFleishman of Tucson, Ariz., Stachowiak of South Bend, and Greg Nowak of Mishawaka; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Nowak of South Bend.
Calling hours were from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in St. Joseph Funeral Home. A prayer service was held at 5 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at noon Tuesday at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Nowak was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion South Bend Post 50. He was also a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
