Gerhard E. Kluge

Gerhard Edward Kluge, 82, formerly of Lamonte Terrace, South Bend, died in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility at 8:25 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, following a short illness.
Mr. Kluge was born on Sept. 21, 1917 in South Bend to the late Gustave and Anna (Fischbach) Kluge and was a lifetime area resident.
On Aug. 19, 1945 in Mishawaka, he married Betty Jane Matz who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Carol Kluge Kyrias of Brookfield, Ill., and Gwendolyn J. Cikanck of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and by two greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Sahloff and Ruth Busch.
Mr. Kluge retired from the store he owned, Jerry's Superette, where he loved saving special cuts of meat for his customers. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a district Republican Committeeman and had served as South Bend Chamber Music secretary.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, with Rev. Gregory Feichner officiating. Cremation will take place in Michiana Crematory with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the church.
