SOUTH BEND - Edward Edstrom, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:20 PM Monday, March 23, 2009, in Regency Place of South Bend. He was born on November 11, 1915, to the late John and Hansena (Skgland) Edstrom in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

Along with his parents, a sister, Gladys Edstrom, and a brother, Jim Edstrom, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Edstrom was retired from AM General after 10 years of employment. Prior to that he worked at both Studebaker and Oliver Plow until they closed. Edward also worked for several years as a bartender at Al's Anchor Inn.

He graduated from Central High School in 1935.

On February 18, 1939, he married Isabella Cegielski in South Bend, IN, who died on May 16, 1983.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (David) Berglund of Mishawaka, IN; sons, Kenneth (Rose Ann) Edstrom of Granger, IN, and Michael Edstrom of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Witt, David Witt, Michelle Lawton, Shawn Edstrom and Melissa Yingling; and five great-grandchildren, Neil Burt, Jeffrey Burt, Skyler Edstrom, Mackinze Edstrom and Alex Yingling.

Mr. Edstrom was a former member of both St. John the Baptist Parish and St. Adalbert Parish. He was also a former member of American Legion Post #357. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

A private family viewing will take place in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM today, March 26th, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, Inc., 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240-1848; or to Pet Refuge, Inc., 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
