Gertrude (Carlson) Tuesley
MISHAWAKA - Gertrude Carlson Tuesley, 90, of Mishawaka, IN, and Belleair Bluffs, FL, died at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Tuesley was born August 24, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Kunning A. and Ruth Lillian (Bergman) Carlson. On March 1, 1941, in South Bend, she married Malcolm J. Tuesley, who preceded her in death February 3, 1986. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Webster and June Nawrot; and one brother, Gustave Carlson.
She is survived by her son, Malcolm J. Tuesley Jr. of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Amanda J. (Russ) Gibbons, Malcolm J. Tuesley III, James W. (Rikki) Tuesley and Julia F. Tuesley; five great-grandchildren, Mikaylah B., Mikenzie F., Ellie K., Evan J. and Avery G.; and six sisters, Ruth Moore, Joan Mays, Irene Crone, Evelyn Brandley, Pauline Pickenpack and Beverly Chachulski.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who touched the lives of many over the years, Gertrude enjoyed cooking, antiquing, gardening and traveling. Her love of antiques and history led her to serve as president of the Frances Coquillard Chapter of Questers, an organization she was involved with at the state and national level. Gertrude was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and, previously, Epworth Memorial Methodist Church. She was committed to numerous other organizations and causes, including the Northern Indiana Center for History and Covenant Christian School, where her granddaughter, Amanda, teaches and her great-granddaughters, Mikaylah and Mikenzie, attend.
