George M. Straka, 81, of Parkovash, South Bend, Ind., died on Saturday morning, Aug. 14, in his home. George was retired from the Torrington Company, a division of Ingersoll-Rand, as a quality control manager for 42 years. He was born on Sept. 6, 1917, in South Bend, and had been a lifetime area resident.

Mr. Straka was a World War II Navy veteran.

On April 19, 1941, in South Bend. he married Julienne. Bourgon, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mary Judith Ferguson of Lorain, Ohio; two sons, William C. . Straka of South Bend and Thomas A. Straka of Brownsville, Texas; three granddaughters, Jill Griebe, Janet Freeman and Amy Ruiz, all of Lorain, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Lillian Solfronk of South Bend and Mary Reed of Louisville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Straka; and by two brothers, John and Frank Straka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Hickey Funeral Home, 017121 Cleveland Road, where a Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
