Mary Catherine (Michael) Donahue

Mary Catherine Donahue, 87, of Colony Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, in Hospice House, South Bend, Ind. Mary Catherine was born on Aug.19, 1916, in South Bend, as the daughter of the late Fredrick D and Bernadette (Gard) Michael.
On Feb.18, 1939, as the former Mary Catherine Michael, she married Bernard R. Donahue, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1983. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Stephens and Helen Rajski; four brothers, Lloyd, Dale, Maurice and Glen Edward Michael; three brothers-in-law, Gordon Stephens, John Huntsberger and George Weaver; and by a son-in-law, Richard J. Barnhart.
She is survived by eight children, Catherine (Theophil) D’Hoore of Mishawaka, Julie Barnhart of New Lenox, Ill., Michael E (Sandi) Donahue Sr. of Mishawaka, Patrick B. Donahue of Watervliet, Mich., Dale (Marilyn) Donahue of Osceola, Ind., Martha Smith of Mishawaka, Tim (Deb) Donahue and Tracy (Mary) Donahue, both of Elkhart, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Leo (Isabel) Michael of Mishawaka, Lawrence (Audrey) Michael of Lake Almanor Peninsula, Calif., Joyce (Louis) Horvath, Dorothy (Cyriel) Matthys, Shirley Hunsberger and Virginia Weaver, all of South Bend; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Michael of Borrego Springs, Calif.
Mary Catherine was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka and American Legion #50 in South Bend. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital Nursing School and was a homemaker. Mary Catherine enjoyed being at home raising her children, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed but never forgotten.
Friends visited from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. where a Rosary was recited at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 24, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 25, in St. Monica Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
