Charles E. Lacy

AMHERST - Charles E. Lacy, 76, of 222 Spencer Drive, died Monday in the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds. Born in Marion, Ind., Sept. 5, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph I. and Audna P. (Derck) Lacy.
He graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., in 1939 and received his master's degree and doctorate from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Lacy had worked at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady, N.Y., for 28 years, retiring in 1979. Previously, he had worked at the International Nickel Co. in New Jersey and at the Hanford Engineering Works in Richland, Wash. He had written several professional papers, and was awarded several patents. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Amherst. He was a life member of the American Society for Metals, and had chaired its eastern New York state chapter.
He was a senior member of the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America. He was a member of the Elfun Society, the Masonic Order, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, and Sigma Xi.
He leaves his wife, Denise S. (Chappaz) Lacy; a daughter, Suzanne M. Wzorek of Easthampton; and a son, Robert A. Lacy of Scotia, N.Y.
