SOUTH BEND - Carl A. Kuespert, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, in Hospice House, of Elkhart. He was 93 years old. Mr. Kuespert was born May 31, 1917, in South Bend, a son of Adolf O. and Elsie (Rothe) Kuespert.

He was a 1935 graduate of Central High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II as an Electrician's Mate. He received a Presidential Unit Citation and five battle stars. Upon his return from the war he married the love of his life, Lois M. Huff, on January 19, 1946, in Zion United Church of Christ, South Bend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lois. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, William and Susan Kuespert of Fond du Lac, WI; two grandchildren, Julie (Owen) Hennemann of Oak Creek, WI, and Jeff (Sarah) Kuespert of Elkhorn, WI; and four great-grandchildren, Tanner and Max Hennemann, and Abram and Elias Kuespert. A sister, Esther Bliler of Mishawaka, survives him as well.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Cook and Shirley Kuespert.

Mr. Kuepsert began his career as an electrician and was a partner at Hobbick-Kuespert Electric Company, later C&L Kuespert, Inc. He served for more than 25 years for the City of South Bend Electrical Examining Board and was a member of IBEW #153. He was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ, a life member of American Legion Post #303, American Turners and South Bend Maenechor. He was a 50-year member of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F.&AM., and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and was a member of Elkhart Moose Lodge #599.

Memorial services for Carl Kuespert will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, in Zion United Church of Christ, 715 East Wayne Street, South Bend. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the church.
