Lester F. Jaskowiak, 79, of West Monroe Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:15 p.m., Saturday, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Jaskowiak retired on Jan. 7, 1977, as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service after 31 years of service.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
On April 12, 1947, in South Bend, he married Rose T. Galus, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Christine Almassy of West Bloomfield, Mich.; a son, John Jaskowiak of South Bend; and three grandchildren, Andrea Almassy and Brian Almassy, both of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Katie Jaskowiak of South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., today, in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. today.
Mr. Jaskowiak was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society and American Legion Pulaski Post 357. Mr. Jaskowiak was also a prisoner of war during World War II
