Herbert E. Hertel
May 13, 1916 - February 4, 1997
Herbert E. Hertel, 80, of Miami Street, South Bend, Ind., died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He was the owner and proprietor of Hertel's Restaurant, and retired in 1970 after 25 years.
He was born May 13, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifetime area resident. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
On October 21, 1941, in South Bend, he married Ruth E. Hoffman, who survives. He is also survived by two sons and their wives, Thomas H. and Martha E. Hertel of South Bend, and Tim E. and Karen A. Hertel of Goshen, Ind.; two loving granddaughters, Elizabeth Hertel of South Bend and Laura of Goshen; and a brother, Morris C. Hertel, who lives in Three Rivers, Mich.
A brother, James R. Hertel, preceded him in death on February 16, 1995.
Herbert Hertel was a member of V.F.W. 1167.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Donald Neely officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church
