William E. Geyer Sr.

OSCEOLA - William E. Geyer Sr., 79, of Eastvue Drive, passed away at 9:49 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in Elkhart General Hospital. Mr. Geyer was born on July 16, 1917, in Mishawaka, and was a lifelong area resident.

On 1 Aug. 17, 1940, in South Bend, he married Madelyn M. Van Acker. She survives, along with two daughters; Judith Benninghoff of South Bend and Mary Ellen (Jim) Wenzel of Niles, Mich., one son, William E. Jr. (Jayne) of South Bend; 14 grandchildren; Deina Williams of Goshen, Edward Bennett Jr. of St. Joseph, Mich., Leslie Hout of Bristol, Ind., Jim Wenzel Jr. of Plymouth, Ind., Brenda Krempetz of South Bend, Darlene Mc Intee of South Bend, Pamela Absher of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Gregory Scott Geyer of South Bend, William E. Geyer Ill of Fort Hood, Texas, Brook Cullum of South Bend, Lindsey Cullum of South Bend; 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Anna Bell Gilmore of South Bend; and a brother, Mahlon Modesitt of Fort Meyers, Fla.

Mr. Geyer was self-employed (Bill Geyer Machine Sales) and was a member of the South Bend Elks Club Lodge 235, and an avid golfer.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Erv. Mize officiating at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. Friends may call one hour before the service. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the charity of the donor's choice.
