Lawrence Edward Apt

Lawrence E. Apt, 82, of passed away on Wed, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Etna Green, Ind., on April 15, 1916, the son of Minnie (Tygart) and Stacy Edward Apt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters. He was a graduate of Acme School of Design, and was a freelance draftsman and die designer.
He is survived by his sisters, Edna Baker of Niles, Mich., Maxine Kise of Albuquerque, N.M., and Juanita Wertz of Sanford, N.C.; two brothers Donald (Joan) Apt of South Bend and Dean (Rita) Apt of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and by many nieces and nephews, who lovingly called him "Uncle Dan."
Larry was an active member of Saint Paul's Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of VFW Post 8748 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 58, South Bend. Over the years he was a valued member of many bowling leagues. As his hobby he entered contests and his skills made him a frequent winner. His biggest prize was a Cadillac.
As a first lieutenant he served two hitches in the United States Army. He was in an engineering and medical battalion, and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to St. Paul's Memorial United Methodist Church
