April 27, 1925 ~ March 10, 2006 (age 80)

Daniel F. Slott , 80, died Friday, March 10th of natural causes. Dan was born April 27, 1925 to Frank J. Slott and Magdalene Slott (Szymkowiak) of LaSalle Avenue, South Bend, IN. He graduated from Central High School in 1943 where he ran track and cross-country and was an Indiana State runner up in the 880 yard run. Dan was one of a few young men who tested out of high school at age 17 to join the Marines where he fought bravely for our country in the Pacific campaign and earned a Purple Heart.
Later he attended Purdue University and then went on to become a Wood Pattern Maker. After serving his apprenticeship at Studebaker, Dan worked at various shops around South Bend and eventually was an owner of Woodward Pattern Works.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Parish and a member of the Pattern Makers League of North America.
Dan loved fishing, camping, woodworking, reading and spending time with his children and grand children. In later years he used much of his time and his woodworking skills to make furniture and wooden toys for his children and grandchildren. He spent many summers living at his cottage on Indian Lake in Dowagiac, MI where he loved to relax and fish with family and friends.
He is survived by his son James Slott (Sheree) of Eau Claire, MI, his daughter Deborah Quinto(Lou) of Indianapolis, his son Robert Slott of Austin, TX, his daughter Linda Slott of Indianapolis, his son William Slott of Eau Claire, MI, his son Thomas Slott (Lisa) of South Bend, IN along with 15 grandchildren ,Alysson (Jeff Oliger ), Chris (Katie), John, Carolyn, Danny, Lauren, Bryan, Kristen, Jennifer, Bradley, Sarah, David and Jessica Slott, Caitlin and Teressa Quinto, and 3 great grandchildren,Thomas and Joshua Slott and Liam Oliger. Four other step grandchildren by marriage of Dans son James Slott to Sheree Klein are Justin, Cade and Jennifer Klein and Tiffany Horvath (Arlo), and 2 more great grandchildren, Trent and Heidi Horvath.
Dan is also survived by his brothers Thomas (Lorraine) of Wheaton, IL, John (MaryAnn) of Florida and his sister MaryAnn Vanderwall of South Bend, IN.
Visitation will be from 2:00  4:00 PM and 6:00  8:00 PM Monday March 13th at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday March 14th, 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Cathedral on Miami St., South Bend, IN with burial to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Grant Street, South Bend, IN.
