SOUTH BEND - Lester A. Weiss, 86, of South Bend, passed away May 3, 2012. Lester was born April 12, 1926, in Indiana, to the late Albert E. and Bernice (Gable) Weiss.

On August 3, 1957, in South Bend, Lester married Virginia Mae (Warner), who passed away February 11, 2008.

He is survived by his son, Albert (Michelle) Weiss of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Amy (Scott) Gabrys, of Elgin, IL; sister, Mary (Phil) Matz of LaGrange, IN; four grandchildren, Kristi, Becky, Andrew and Nikki Gabrys; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Warner of South Bend.

Lester proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He had worked as a banker / bookkeeper at Pioneer Federal Savings & Loan. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, and was a member of the German Twp. Lions Club. Lester was loved by his many friends. He enjoyed model trains, photography, and camping.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 17195 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635. Rev. Steven Schwier will be officiating funeral services. Friends may visit with the family 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Private burial will be held at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger. In Lester's memory, contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church. Per the Martin History bk, pg 9 (1918-1956): Lester graduated from Central High School at South Bend, Ind. He took piano at Wagner School of Mrs. Imhoff; voice lessons at the South Bend theaters for several years. He has worked in the American Trust Co. Bank for 5 years, and at present is teller. He is an ardent worker in the Portage Chapel Methodist Church, choir director and Sunday School teacher. In the absence of the pastor, he has delivered the sermon.
