SOUTH BEND Ralph B. Sollitt, 71, of Wildflower Way, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Bernard Mitchell Hospital, Chicago, Ill. Mr. Sollitt retired as chairman of the board of the Sollitt Construction Company in 1986.

He was born on March 3, 1926, in South Bend, to Ralph S. and Anita (Bishop) Sollitt, and was a lifetime area resident.

On April 20, 1947, in South Bend, he married Joanne Ragsdale, who preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Gwen S. Gagnon.

Mr. Sollitt is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Sollitt of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, R. Thomas Sollitt of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by a sister, Gloria S. Carroll of Glenview, Ill.

He was a member of the board of directors of Semiconductor and Specialists, Inc., of Elmhurst, Ill., and was a former member of the board of directors of Wells Aluminum of New Carlisle and of Wells Electronics, Inc., of South Bend.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the South Bend Goose and Duck Club, was a former member of the South Bend Gun Club, Indiana Club and the Morris Park Country Club. Mr. Sollitt was also a charter member of the Summit Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in the First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Avenue, with Rev. David Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street.

Memorial contributions may be. made to the American Lung Association or to the First Presbyterian Church.
