Max A. Reeder, 83, of South Bend, died Sunday morning in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born February 21, 1926, in South Bend, to Alvin and Tressie (Handley) Reeder. On June 1, 1947, in South Bend, he married Betty Jane Cochran. Max retired from the South Bend Police Department as a detective sergeant after 44 years of service. Max served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of FOP Lodge 36. He is survived by his wife Betty along with a daughter, Leora I. (Robert) of Lafayette, IN; two sons, Thomas A. (Judy) of Richmond, KY, and James B. (Kim) of Rome City, IN; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Harley Reeder of South Bend. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28th, in the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive at Colfax Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Patrick Summers, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and one hour prior to services in the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County, 6910 N. Main, Granger, IN 46530.
