William D. Niedbalski Sr.

William D. Niedbalski Sr., 89, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born May 20, 1926 in South Bend to William and Dorothy (Sczypski) Niedbalski. His parents are both deceased as well as his two sisters, Evelyn Wells, and Loretta Fuson.

After serving in WWII 1944 to 1946, Bill married Margaret Jane Forster on December 21, 1946. From this union were born four children, Alan J. (Susanne) Niedbalski of Niceville, FL., William D. (Carolyn) Niedbalski of South Bend, Janet M. Koucouthakis, and Christopher J. (Gloria) Niedbalski of Mishawaka; and former son-in-law, Gus Koucouthakis. Bill's first wife, Janie died in October of 2001.

Bill was an electrician owning The Electric Construction Company, on Michigan Street in South Bend. He was well known in the community, servicing both private and commercial customers. Bill never met a stranger and was often approached by former customers offering a handshake or a hug. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church from its beginning and did many tasks there for improvements to the parish. He served on church committees in the early years and was a Boy Scout and Indian Guide leader. He had great pride for his loving family.

On August 31, 2002. Bill married Betty (Greene) Forster, who survives. With this union came four step-children, Robert K. (Lily) Forster, Gary L. Forster, Connie (Brad) Weber and Joan L. (Luke) VanderBleek.

Bill is also survived by grandchildren, Alana (George) Bass, Scott (Marcie) Niedbalski, Alison and Rachael Niedbalski, Ryne, Krystal and Kyle Koucouthakis and Kennedy, Lexi, Riley, and Joce Niedbalski; and nephew, Brandon Penznik.

Step-grandchildren, Michael (Meghan) Forster, Robert and Regina Forster, Riley, Ross and Emma Weber and Mattie, Olivia, Isabel, Tessa and Elise VanderBleek, Katherine Resnick, Joseph (Kathleen) Resnick, and Will Resnick.

Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Meagan and Sam Bass, Gavin Heaney, Phillip, Zack, Julie and Callie Niedbalski; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ann Ashby and Harrison Resnick.

Visitation for Bill is 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, May 22, 2016 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Monday, in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Jude Building Fund, 19704 Johnson Rd., South Bend, Indiana 46614 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
