Barbara Ann Morningstar, age 97 of Edwardsburg MI passed away August 4, 2024.  She went peacefully to be with the Lord in her home surrounded by her family.  

Barbara was born Barbara Ann Lukas on April 4, 1927, in South Bend, IN to Frank and Bridget Lukas.  She graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1944 and went to work as a secretary for Studebaker Company. 

In 1948, she was married to Clyde Morningstar also of South Bend.  Barb and Clyde resided in various locations after their marriage including Denver, CO, South Bend, IN, Howe, IN, Fort Worth TX, and Cassopolis MI.  Eventually settling in Edwardsburg MI, all the while raising 5 children.  Barbara retired as a sales associate from Sears Roebuck in University Park Mall after many years.  

Relatively later in life Barbara took up golf and enjoyed playing in the ladies’ league at Four Lakes Country Club. She loved her family dearly, was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandma, commonly known as Grandma Dear.  She especially loved the babies.  She loved to play cards and games with her family and friends and hated to lose.  She was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, mother Bridget, father Frank, brother Frank, and brother Jerry.  

She is survived by her sister Gertrude Berndt of South Bend, her children Sue Morningstar of Lovelock, NV, son Rex Morningstar of Central Lake, MI, son Lee (Carol) Morningstar of Niles, MI, daughter Kay Eaton (Charles) of Edwardsburg, MI, son Tom (Robin) Morningstar of Edwardsburg, MI, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, IN on Thursday, August 8th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The family will also receive friends on Friday, August 9th from 11:00 AM until 12 noon at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Friday, August 9th at 12:00 noon with Reverend Bob Vale officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
