SOUTH BEND - Juanita Schaefer, 89, of South Bend, passed away at 10:33 am on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at her daughter’s house in Russiaville, IN. She was born on August 31, 1925, in Florence, Alabama, the daughter of Floyd & Myrtle (Jones) Barrier.

On April 4, 1948, she married Louis Jonas, and they later divorced. She then married Robert Schaefer on June 7, 1978, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1992. Juanita was a 1943 graduate of Central High School of South Bend, IN. She retired from Carlton Financial Computations in South Bend. Juanita was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in South Bend and had been very active in the Meals  on Wheels program. Juanita was a kind, loving mother and a loyal friend to many. She especially enjoyed time spent with her two greatgrandchildren watching Notre Dame football on Saturdays. 

Juanita is survived by her children, Patricia (Rick) Bartley of Russiaville, Paul (Linda) Jonas of South Bend, Don Jonas of South Bend, and Ron Jonas of South Bend; sisters, Rose Holston, Mary Watson and Sally Horstmann; grandchildren, Landen (Misty) Bartley, Ryan Jonas and Cameron Jonas; and greatgrandchildren, Kaden Bartley and Kelsey Bartley. Juanita was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Barrier, along with her first husband, Louis Jonas, on November 24, 1991, and husband, Robert Schaefer.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the American Legion Post #357 in South Bend, IN, on February 14, 2015, from 12-3 pm. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com. Stout & Son Funeral Home in Russiaville is assisting the family with arrangements.
