SOUTH BEND - Loretta Chillag, 95, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2021 in Coppell Texas.

Loretta was born on March 5, 1926 in South Bend, Indiana to Casimir and Nellie Aranowski, as the fourth of five children. Her sisters Lucille (Coveleski) and Henrietta and her brothers Erwin and George preceded her in death. She always had dear memories of growing up on Thomas Street and spending time with family and friends.

She attended St. Hedwig Grade School and graduated from South Bend Central High School, where she met her future husband, Robert Chillag. They wed in 1946 when Bob returned from serving in WWII. He passed away in 1988. She lived in South Bend her entire life until recently, when she went to Texas to be near her son.

Loretta loved people and was always active and involved. She worked as a bookkeeper first at the Robert Chillag CPA firm and then at Aranowski & Co, until she retired at the age of 85.

She was a member at Corpus Christi parish where she was involved with the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Christ Child Society. Loretta loved to entertain and play bridge. Her favorite event was hosting Christmas Eve dinner every year for family and friends. She was a huge Notre Dame fan, especially for the Notre Dame Women's basketball team and was an avid fan at their games. Her favorite pastime in recent years was joining her friends at Fireman's Club for Friday dinner, MR Falcon's for fish frys and local theatre productions. Loretta always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed life each and every day.

Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Chillag, son, Mark Chillag (Debbie Russell), granddaughters Megan Mongird (Alex Smith), Chelsea Mongird, Kendall Mongird, Kailyn Chillag Bibbee (Cole Bibbee) and Sarah Chillag and great-granddaughters Maya and Haven Mongird. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend Carolyn Aranowski and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday June 1st at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 South Mayflower Road, South Bend, Indiana. A rosary will be said at 4:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. A mass honoring her life will take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Dr, South Bend on Wednesday June 2nd at 11:00 am. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the Corpus Christi Alter & Rosary Society. Please make checks payable to Corpus Christi Parish with a note that it is for Altar & Rosary in memory of Loretta Chillag.
