John Howard Thomas

SOUTH BEND - John H. Thomas, 76, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of South Bend, died Nov. 11 in his home.
Mr. Thomas was retired as vice president and treasurer of Conard Corp., Evansville, a partner for the former Darnell Drug Stores and was associated with General Liquors, both in South Bend.
He was born March 24, 1915, in South Bend and moved to Evansville in 1960, going there from South Bend.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jessie M. Walling; two daughters, Marijo Huck of Harlingen and Susan Goldsberry of Patoka, Ind.; three sons, J. Andrew and Charles J., both of Evansville, and Jeffrey L. of Davie, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He graduated from the former South Bend Central High School, was member of Golden Legion of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Masonic Lodge 204, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, South Bend Alumni Association, Kentucky Colonel, Vandenburgh Historical Society, and was a veteran of the Army.
Services will be held in Evansville. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, conducted by Masonic Lodge 294. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in Elks Lodge 235, 3535 E. McKinley Highway. Cox Funeral Home, Harlingen, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to National Hospice Organization or Shrine Crippled Children's Fund.
