Mary (Szabo) Hirschler

Mary (Szabo) Hirschler, 86, formerly of Greenacre Street in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Mrs. Hirschler was born on Oct. 12,.1915, in South Bend, as the daughter of the late John and Rose (Katona) Szabo.

On Oct. 19, 1940, in St. Stephen Catholic Church, South Bend, as Mary Szabo, she married Emery L. Hirschler, who preceded her in death on May 11, 1983. Mary was also preceded in death by a brother, Alex Szabo; and by two sisters, Elizabeth Toth and Kathleen Szabo.

Mary is survived by two sons, Emery (Judy) Hirschler and John (Susan) Hirschler, both of South Bend; and by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by a sister, Irene (Harold) Hershman of South Bend.

Mrs. Hirschler has been a lifelong area resident and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend. She was retired from the South Bend Medical Foundation and Real Services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933, South Bend, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. 

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Hirschler may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to an organization of the donor's choice. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
