Robert L. Schumaker

Robert L. Schumaker, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:35 p.m.Sunday, July 23, 2006, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 2, 1915, in Niles, MI, to the late George Frederick and Lillian (Therrian) Schumaker. On August 31, 1946, in South Bend, he married the former Donna Hively, who preceded him in death on June 3, 1989.

Mr.Schumaker is survived by three daughters, Merikay Daugherty of N.Baltimore, OH, Kathe (Lonnie) Graham of Green Forest, AR, and Lynne (Ray Larson) Jones of Osceola, IN;one son, Bruce (Karla) Schumaker of South Bend;eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren;one sister, Maxine Crawley of Muncie, IN;and one brother, Fred (Maxine) Shoemaker of Albuquerque, NM.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Mr.Schumaker was a lifelong area resident of South Bend. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II.Mr. Schumaker retired as a clerk from the United States Post Office in 1979 after 38 years of service.He was past president of the local chapter of AARP for over 10 years.He also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was the oldest member of the Broadway Christian Parish United Methodist Church.

We would like to thank everyone who was so kind to Dad during his long daily walks. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.Thursday, July 27, 2006, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S.Michigan St., South Bend, IN.Rev.Nancy Nichols, pastor of the Broadway Christian Parish United Methodist Church, will officiate.Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00
