John Miller Paxson, 51, of 56292 Chapel Lane Rd., died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after a three-week illness. He was a former Studebaker Corp. employee and recently had been employed at La Porte by the Indiana Toll Road Commission.

He was born on March 28, 1914, in South Bend and had resided here his lifetime.

He married the former Evelyn Lewis on Jan. 26, 1946, in South Bend. She survives. Other survivors are his father, Victor E. Paxson Sr.; two sons, John Charles and Edward Victor, both at home: a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, at home; a brother, Victor E. Jr., South Bend; and two sisters, Mrs. Roland Haney of South Bend and Mrs. Norbert Noecker of Allegan, Mich.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home.

Mr. Paxson was the founder and registrar of the South Bend Crown and Gold Society, and a charter member of the South Bend Coin Club and the Benton Harbor and St. Joseph Coin Club. He was a member also of the Northern Indiana Historical Society and of the Michigan State Numismatist. Club.

He was an Army veteran of World War II
