Julia (Nagy) Farkas
July 8, 1914 - March 12, 2005
Julia Farkas, 90, formerly of Altgeld Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 8, 1914, in Aurora, III., to Joseph and Rosalia Nagy who preceded her in death. Julia's family moved to South Bend when she was five years old. She attended Perley School and Central High School, graduating with the January class of 1933.
On July 29, 1935, in South Bend, as Julia Nagy, she married Alex Farkas, who preceded her in death in April of 1981. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Nagy of Budapest, Hungary, Joseph Nagy and Alex Nagy, both of South Bend, a son-in-law, Gordon Weist Jr., and a grandson, Eric Weist of South Bend.
Julia is survived by a brother, James Nagy of Rockledge, Fla., a son Richard (Shirley) Farkas of South Bend, a daughter, Beverly Weist of South Bend, four grandchildren, Kelly Farkas of Raleigh, N.C., Debbie Murray of South Bend, Greg (Christine) Weist of Mishawaka and David (Katherine) Weist of Niles, Mich., then great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She retired from 1st Source Bank (formerly First Bank and Trust) in 1976, where she worked in the Trust Dept. Julia was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church and Faith Circle, until her health prevented her from participating in church activities. She was also active in the Central High School class of 1932-33 reunions. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, working on church fund raising projects and attending dinner theaters with their Central High School classmates. She was a kind and helping person and will be missed by all. Her family will miss her every day.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15th in the Kaniewski Funeral Home on Bendix Drive in South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the funeral home.
