HARTFORD CITY- Baird E. Metzger, 88, passed away Friday afternoon at Ball Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on October 22, 1915 in West Salem, Illinois to William and Alice Metzger.
Baird was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as Captain in the Army Engineers. From 1941 to 1945, Baird fought in World War II, and served in the reserves until 1949. He was an avid fisherman, and retired from American Electric Power after over 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Masonic organization.
Baird leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, whom he married on February 22, 1997, Dorothy Metzger, Hartford City; two sisters, Melba Wolff, South Bend, and Ann Louise Marsh, Arizona; three special nephews, Al Metzger, Brent Wolff, and Greg Wolff; special friends, Terry, Carla, Amy, and Ashlee Elzey, and Terry Ramsey; and several other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Metzger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 50 years, Harriet Metzger; and a brother, Paul Metzger.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 2700 W. Moore Road, Muncie. Friends may greet the family from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie.
Burial will be conducted at Elwood Cemetery
