Imogene Margaret “Em” (Megan) Klockow

Imogene Margaret “Em” Klockow, 91, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away in her sleep at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29.
She was born on December 3, 1914, in South Bend, to the late Bert and Mary (Rankert) Megan.On June 30, 1934, she married Herbert F. Klockow, who died in 1989; they were married 55 years. Mrs.Kockow was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Clifford and William Megan; and by two sisters, Hazel Bunch and Mary Freshley.
Survivors include three sons, Neil (Patricia) of Granger, Indiana, James of South Bend and Jerry of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Ruth Jean (Peter) Toth of South Bend; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services for Mrs. Klockow will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and one hour prior to services on Friday. Burial will be at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend.
Mrs. Klockow, a lifetime resident of this area, graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1933. She was a homemaker for 26 years, and was executive director of the South Bend, Mishawaka Board of Realtors for 15 years. At that time she was also involved in the designing and planning of the building still active at its present location. She then worked for the White Farm Equipment Company in the engineering dept. until they closed their facility in South Bend. Mrs.Klockow continued her active role by working for the South Bend Better Business Bureau for nine years. After retiring at age 84 she continued to keep active by volunteering her time at the Battell Center and the Football Hall of Fame. She was a lifetime member of the South Bend Turner Hall, joining the Women’s Auxiliary in 1954, and attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church in South Bend. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and was a lifelong avid reader especially of biographies.
