FLORENCE - Bernetta Elaine Weis, 90, died of natural causes at Kathy's Place in Florence at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005. Mrs. Weis was born July 31, 1915, in South Bend, Ind., to Pearl (Garver) and John Hutson.

She grew up in Southern California, was educated in Pennsylvania and Indiana, lived in Washington, D.C., and then returned to South Bend, her home of 70 years. In 1995, she joined her daughter, Sandra Alcosser and son in-law Philip Maechling in the Bitterroot Valley.

Mrs. Weis married Karl Weis in 1946, and they were together until Karl's death in 1985.

Mr. and Mrs. Weis worked, as president and vice president, respectively, of Karl Weis Auto Body Shop and KABCO Inc. (processors and distributors of Mercedes Benz of North America). They traveled throughout the United States and Europe, and had an active family and community life. Mrs. Weis skied, played golf and bridge. She loved to dance and she loved animals.

Bernetta Weis was preceded in death by two husbands, William Wunsch and Karl Weis; three sisters, Ruth Welsh, Eva Perkins and Leona Welbaum; a brother, Earl Victor Hutson; and a nephew, Richard Welsh.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Weis is survived by three nieces, Jean Nusbaum, Katherine Kritz and Nancy Clark; and three nephews, Clarence Hutson, James Kritz and Richard Kritz.

A memorial service was held for Bee Weis at Kathy's Place on Aug. 25, and another will be held later at Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend, Ind. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Dr. Georgia Milan, Kathy Porter and Lu Gilstad for their loving care.
