John J. Gish

Sept. 9, 1914-June 30, 1995

SOUTH BEND - John J. Gish, 80, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Devonshire Drive, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday in the center. Mr. Gish retired from the South Bend Fire Department after 27 yearsi n South Bend, He was born Sept. 9, 1914 and was a lifelong area resident.

On Oct. 12, 1940, in South Bend, he married Erentrude A. Sledzikowski. She survives with a daughter, Judie A. Richard of Edwardsburg; a son, John J. II of South Bend; and three grandsons.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Knights of Columbus Council 553. He initiated the Hospital Evacuation Program with Joseph Daly.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Care and Rehabilitation Center.
