SOUTH BEND - Services for Robert William Calvert, 78, of 3023 Niles Buchanan Road, Buchanan, formerly of South Bend, who died at 11 a.m. Sunday in his home after an illness, will be at 8 p.m. today in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Cremation will take place. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Calvert founded Ironcraft Co., South Bend, in 1945. He was born March 29, 1915, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Nov. 11, 1949, in Niles, he married Beatrice D. Lick. She survives, with a daughter, Diane M. Burkart of Reston, Va.; a son, Bruce L. of South Bend; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Calvert was credited with building the first ribless and sparless aluminum cruiser on the Great Lakes. He was a member of Niles First Presbyterian Church, Bend of the River Conservation Club, was past director of the New Buffalo Yacht Club
