Mary Elizabeth (Barnes) Mentzer

Nature enthusiast, Mary E. "Betty" Mentzer, 91, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, with her family at her side. She was born in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 7, 1913, to Harry Newton and Phebe (Bartrem) Barnes.
A longtime Perrysburg resident, Betty was very open, loving and accepting of others. She loved playing bridge, reading, visiting with family and friends, watching and learning about animals and nature and fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. She also enjoyed genealogy, gardening, Notre Dame football and scouting with her daughters.
Surviving are her son, David (Barbara) Mentzer; daughters, Rebecca (Tom) Irvin and Ann Bartram; brother, Harry (Madeline) Barnes; seven grandchildren; and two-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Daniel Mentzer; and her sister, Margaret Barnes.
A memorial service was held at the Maumee Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 2. Arrangements were by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee.
