June Rachel (Steyaert) Caldwell
June Rachel Caldwell, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on the 10th of October, 2024, at the blessed age of 98 in Elkhart, IN, just one day shy of her 99th birthday. Born on the 11th of October, 1925, in the warm heart of South Bend, IN, she led a life marked by kindness and an unwavering dedication to her family.
A proud graduate of Central High School in 1942, June's early years were underscored by academic achievement and community involvement. Her life took a beautiful turn when she married her loving husband, Russell Caldwell Jr. on September 12, 1953, embarking on a journey filled with shared dreams and mutual support until his passing.
June's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her two daughters, Lynne (Barry) Goodpaster of Westmont and Kathleen "Kathy" (Frank Rivera) Caldwell of South Bend; her son, Dean (Kim) Caldwell of Alva, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Jason (Julia), Kevin (Andy), Kate (Jon), and Jennifer (Ben); and her adored great-grandchildren, Ava, Luke, Isabelle, Asa, Autumn, and Freddie. Her life was enriched by the love and joy her family brought her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Russell Caldwell Jr., and her parents, Victor and Irma (Gryp) Steyaert.
June will be remembered for her loving and kind spirit, as well as her generous nature. Her unwavering commitment to her family will be her enduring legacy, shining through the countless lives she touched. June Rachel Caldwell's memory will forever be a guiding light for her family and those who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the service. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Riverview Cemetery, 2300 Portage Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in June’s honor may be given to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
