Eugene "Gene" Charles Priebe

Eugene "Gene" C. Priebe, 78, of Spring Lake died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 13, 1924 to Albert and Mary (Daurer) Priebe in South Bend, Ind., and married Mary Lou Mitchell May 13, 1950 in South Bend. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 2002.
Mr. Priebe moved here from South Bend in 1957 and worked for Continental Motors in Muskegon, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Priebe attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, was a member of the American Legion-Charles A. Conklin Post 28, and a current member of the Spring Lake Zoning Board. He was an avid gardener (flowers and vegetables) and fan of Notre Dame sports.
Survivors include his daughter Kathleen (Robert) Wydeck of Grand Haven; son Michael Priebe of San Francisco, Calif.; three grand-children, Christine McCartney (fiancee Jeff Humphreys), Janice (Chad) Notenbaum and Robert Wydeck Jr.; and three great grandchildren, Kathryn and Austin Notenbaum, and Jasmine Humphreys.
Several sisters and brothers preceded him in death.
Arrangements are being handled by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Spring Lake. A funeral service for Mr. Priebe will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammcraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Rev. Anthony Vainavicz officiating. Friends may meet the family 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends are asked to remember the Spring Lake District Library fund (Warner-Baird Library Fund).
