Kathleen I. (McLaughlin) Deja

SOUTH HAVEN - Kathleen I. (McLaughlin) Deja, 75, of South Haven, formerly of St. Joseph, died Nov. 2,.2000, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, after a brief illness.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at St. Basil's Catholic Church, South Haven, with the Rev. Father John Young officiating. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township. Friends are invited for lunch immediately following the service at the church on Monday. Kathleen was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1925, in Elkhart, Ind., to Grover and Nellie (Fisher) McLaughlin. In 1946, she graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind., as a registered nurse. She later served as a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.

On Sept. 25, 1948, she married George V. Deja in St. Joseph. She was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church and was active in the local chapter of AARP. She is survived by her six children - Patrick (Dianne) of Grand Rapids, Thomas (Deborah) of Papillion, Neb., Jane Cline and Deborah (Kurt) Keebler of South Haven and Ginger (Jack) Payovich and Joanne (Martin) Strebeck of St. Joseph; 11 grandchildren; two brothers Wilmer McLaughlin of Goshen, Ind., and Donald McLaughlin of Naperville, Ill.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews,

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1998; a brother, Wayne McLaughlin, in 1992; a sister, Elizabeth Topp, in 1993; and grandson, Kenneth Deja, in 1976
