WATERVLIET Daniel's life began Oct. 19, 1928, in South Bend, Ind. After high school, Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a counter man at All Phase Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Outside of work, he enjoyed his family, gardening (especially flowers), traveling, all sports, reading, making wooden toys and other woodworking.
Daniel's greatest joy was his family, which includes: His wife, Aline, whom he married Jan. 30, 1954; four children: David (Sharon) Click of Manchester, Mich., Michael (Cindy) Wegenka of Stoddard, Wis.; Thomas Wegenka of Nashville, Tenn. ; and Mary Ann Smith of Shoreview, Minn; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and two siblings, Mary Jane Fowler and Chester (Marilyn) Wegenka.
Daniel died Friday, Jan. 10, at his home. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Mitchell; his parents Walter and Blanche Wegenka; and five siblings: Robert Wegenka, Walter Wegenka, Frank Wegenka, Patricia Laskowski, and Rita Csenar.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet. Memorials may be made in Daniel's memory to the Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation, or to his family. Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Daniel's family with arrangements.
