A Celebration of Life on his 80th Birthday will be held at 2 p.m. at the Eugene Country Club for William Andrew Parshall of Eugne who died Feb. 24 of sepsis, pneumonia, and complications of dementia. He was 79.

Bill was born May 8, 1929 in South Bend, Ind., to Dale and Katheryn VanDoren Parshall. He married Suzanne Green on Dec. 28, 1954 in South Bend, Ind.

Bill attended South Bend public schools and earned a Bachelor's degree and Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Michigan. He was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. His medical degree was from Harvard Medical School. Bill completed his medical work as an intern at King County Hospital in Seattle and his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He served as a Captain in the U. S. Air Force from 1957-1959 in Long Beach, Calif. He came to Eugene in 1965 and was a general vascular and thoracic surgeon at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Bill also performed surgery at McKenzie-Wiallamette and was a volunteer physician in South Vietnam in 1971.

He was President of the Lane County Medical Society and Chief of General Surgery at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Bill belonged to the Oregon Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, and the Continental Surgical Club, which was a group of Mayo Alums who met every year and was also a member of the Colony Dance Club. He retired in 1990.

He had many interests which included sailing in the Caribbean, fly fishing and fly tying, snow and water skiing, snorkeling, Oregon Duck football and basketball games, Civil War and World War I & II History, reading, investing, revising house plans, and traveling to foreign countries.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bruce (Barbara), Dale (Sheri), both of Portland, and Jeffrey (Kathi) of Bend; a daughter Jill Parshall of Portland; a brother Byron of Mishawaka, Ind.; and five grandchildren. Bill was devoted to his family and will be missed.
