SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Jean Evelyn Collins, 69, South Bend, died at 2:40 p.m. EST Saturday (April 4, 1998) at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

The funeral service is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with the Rev. Ronald Dixon officiating. Burial is in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Collins was born Dec. 27, 1928, in South Bend, to Clarence and Ethel Bestle Ashley.

On Sept. 24, 1947, in South Bend, she married Lee Collins, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Linda (Victor) Steinhoffer, Judy (John) Paczesny, Patty (Tom) Triplet, all of South Bend, Joyce (Larry) Gussman, Rolling Prairie; a son, James (Kay) Collins, South Bend; her grandchildren, Kris (Jeff) Beatty, Indianapolis, Gary and Kevin Paczesny, South Bend, Dale Matthews, U.S. Air Force; Kim, Lorrie and Holly Triplet, all of South Bend, Shelly (Tim) Ebersol, South Bend, and Scott and Sarah Collins, South Bend; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (George) Palm, LaPorte, Betty (Roger) Slater, Yorba Linda, Calif.; and a brother, Warren (Althea) Ashley, South Bend.

Mrs. Collins retired in 1996 from Sears, Roebuck and Co., with 38 years of service as an accounting clerk. She was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, South Bend.

Memorials may be made to the church or the St. Joseph County Hospice.
