SOUTH BEND - Helen Joyce Ford, 84, passed away October 10th at the South Lake Methodist Hospital, Merrillville, Indiana.

She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School in South Bend, Indiana. She was a graduate of Purdue University, with honors, and retired from the Gary Community System in 1994 with 29 years of service.

She was the Church Mother of the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Kingsford Heights, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Simpson and Katherine Oakley; 2 brothers, William and Gene Simpson of South Bend, Indiana; and 1 son, Isaac C. Payne of Los Angeles, California.

She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted husband, Elder Thomas Ford; 3 sons, Norman (Sheila) Malone of Merrillville, Indiana, Kevin Ford of Gary, Indiana, and Roderick (Pollyanna) Ford of Columbus, Indiana; 2 sisters, Mon Sue (Earl) Emery of Flint, Michigan and Dorothy Gentry of South Bend, IN; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives, friends and her devoted church family.

Visitation is Friday, October 19, 2012, from 9-10:00 a.m. Family hour is 10-11:00 a.m. Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. All services are at Saints Home Church of God in Christ, 823 East 21st Avenue, Gary, IN, Pastor Michael H. Bush officiating, Elder Rozelle Hammonds, pastor. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
