Mary E. (Newburn) Love

April 4, 1928 - Nov. 23, 2002

Mary Emma Love, 74, of South Iowa Street, South Bend, Ind., born April 4, 1928, made her transition peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jessie (Hart) Newburn, both deceased; her life partner, Jessie J. Love; and by her sons, Richard E. Love and stepson, Jessie J. Love Jr., both deceased.

She is survived by their daughters, Sherry F. Smith-Wagner (Frederick W. Wagner) of Austin, Texas, and Jacquelene D. Smith of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Aminah Yahya of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, James W. Newburn of South Bend; foster brother, Winard (Kate) Anderson; foster sister, Odessa T. Morton of North Chicago, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Betty Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; and by nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Easter of 1937, and was Junior Choir President on the Jr. Usher Board, was a member of the Gospel Choir, the Anna Hutchinson Missionaries, Visitors Greeter for the Senior Usher Board, and was a teacher of class #18 for 30 years.

Memorial services for Mary E. Love will be held today, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. in the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 116 North Birdsell St., South Bend.

The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements
