Martha May (Boyer) Smith

NEW CARLISLE – Martha May Smith, 90, of New Carlisle. She was born on May 8, 1928 in South Bend, IN to the late Joseph William and Zoe Thelma (Freeland) Boyer.

Martha was married to Ralph Smith on September 28, 1947; they celebrated 65 years together before Ralph's passing in 2012.

She is survived by 3 sons; Ralph Steven (Sue) Smith of Niles, MI, Ronald Scott Smith of Bremen, IN, & Richard Joseph Smith of New Carlisle, IN; 2 daughters, Martha Elaine Wells of Pierceton, IN and Merry Anne (Mark) Resch of Waterford, MI; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, 2 brothers; Francis Joseph Boyer and William Harris Boyer; 1 sister, Mary Thelma (Boyer) Stubbs, a grandson, Bryan Ray Foreman, and a great-granddaughter, Karlee Celeste Kochanowicz.

Martha was a resident of New Carlisle since 1954 when she, her husband, and children moved there and that's where her heart stayed; she enjoyed traveling and took numerous trips with the family, mowing the yard on her riding lawn mower, and spending time with her large family. Martha loved music and played the organ and accordion; she was also an avid fan of recording movies and items of interest that she shared with many others. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.

Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
