Casimer John Zielinski

Casimir John Zielinski, 55, of 2714 Bonds Ave., a former South Bend police captain, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital at 11 a.m. Sunday after a short illness. He retired from the Police Department in January, 1963. He had been on the force 21 years, serving the last eight years as a captain. He had been the sergeant in charge of the night detail of the University of Notre Dame security force since 1969.

On Nov. 19, 1938, he married Dorothy V. Jurek, who survives, along with his mother, Mrs. Bernice M. Zielinski of South Bend; two sons, Arthur C. of South Bend, and Thomas M. of Lake Forest, III.; a daughter, Mrs. Christine Bell of Anderson, Ind., six grandchildren; two brothers, William and Bert, both of South Bend, and a sister, Mrs. Jane Ast of South Bend.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rev. Casimir F. Grabarz, C.S.C., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Zielinski was a member F.O.P. Lodge 36, the Holy Name Society of St. Stanislaus parish and the St. Joseph's Young Men's Society of St. Adalbert's Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Assn. of St. Joseph County or the Police Retirement Fund.
