Harry E. Woodard

Harry E. Woodard, 63, of 1737 Brookmede, died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday in his home. He was retired from the United States Post Office, and had worked at the University of Notre Dame Library.

Born on July 24, 1917, in Dowagiac, he lived in South Bend most of his life.

On Jan. 13, 1940, in South Bend, he married Gertrude Vogel, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Peggy Bittle of Goshen, Ms. Linda Woodard of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Joyce Pairitz of Michigan City; a son, Eddie of Waunakee, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and two stepsisters, Mrs. Helen Bowers of South Bend and Mrs. Mary Jane Nassar of Clarksdale, Miss.

Services were to have been today in St. Matthew Cathedral, of which he was a member. Most Rev. Joseph R. Crowley, bishop, officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, was in charge of arrangements.

He was a member National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a former member of Postmasters International. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
