Mary Jane (Wittner) Lendy

SHELBY - Mary Jane Lendy, 70, formerly of 28 Morningside Drive died Monday afternoon in Crestwood Care Center after a short illness. She was born Feb. 7, 1916, in South Bend, Ind. She was a retired employee of the Shelby Mutual Insurance Co. and a member of the Rizpah Chapter 153 Order of the Eastern Star and the Business and Professional Women's Club.

Mrs. Lendy was the first president of the Shelby Chapter of Insurance Women and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelby.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lawrence A. (Catherine) Whiteman of Swainsboro, Ga.; and one brother, George Wittner Jr. of South Bend, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Lendy, in 1968.

Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Turner Funeral Home by the Rev. Steven Schag, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at South Bend, Ind. Calling hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., with Eastern Star services at 8:45.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or to a Shriner's hospital and left at the funeral home
