SOUTH BEND - Paul A. Walsh, 81, of Wimbleton Court, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, in the Regency Place Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born on August 26, 1916, in Wayne Township, Fulton County, Ind.
He married Virginia M. Chambers, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sharon Veith of South Bend; a son, Dennis E. (Robin) Walsh of Coto de Caza, Calif.; three grandchildren, James C. Veith, Trevor J. Walsh and Erin E. Walsh; a brother, John J. Walsh of South Bend; and by a sister, Rosemarie Lazo of McLean, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Theresa M. Walsh; a sister, T. Eileen Walsh; and by two brothers, Robert W. Walsh and Wendell N. Walsh.
Paul was a South Bend Central High School graduate and was employed by the Railway Express Company following graduation. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army at the Panama Canal Zone. Following military service he attended Indiana University Extension, graduating in 1949 from Indiana University, Bloomington.
He was employed by the Studebaker Corporation from 1950 to 1957, living in Dallas, Texas, Cleveland, Ohio, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Paul joined the Clark Equipment Credit Corporation upon returning to South Bend in 1957 and retired, after 20 years of service, as president, Clark Credit of Canada, St. Thomas, Ontario. From 1969 through 1980 he resided in Buchanan, Mich., moving to Vero Beach, Fla., in 1980, and returning to reside in South Bend in 1995.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the McGann Funeral Home, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
