Carl F. Waechter, 58, of 3011 Wilder, died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Waechter was a retired South Bend Police Department employe and was a Sunnyside Beverage Co. employe.

Born on April 11, 1916, in South Bend, he had lived here all his life.

On Nov. 6, 1937, in South Bend, he married Ruth Ourebeck, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Thomas of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Cindy, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Wiley of Jackson, Mich., and Mrs. Earl  R. Aker Jr. of South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Zion United Church of Christ, of which Waechter was a member. Rev. Donald Kaufman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home and an hour before services in the church.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and South Bend Mannerchor Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ or the St. Joseph County Cancer Society
