Former attorney and chairman of the South Bend Human Rights Commission, Isadore Rosenfeld, 72, of 1658 Turtle Creek, died Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rosenfeld was a St. Joseph County deputy prosecuting attorney from 1953 to 1961.

In 1957, he was assigned by Patrick Brennan to St. Joseph Superior Court 2. During this time, he was credited with consolidating the superior court. In 1960, he resigned as a member of the prosecutor's staff to begin private practice. While Mr. Rosenfeld served on the Human Rights Commission, he was instrumental in drafting original civil rights legislation for the state of Indiana. Participating on both the national and local levels of the Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council, Mr. Rosenfeld served on the board of directors of the national organization and chairman of the local advisory council.

In 1962, he retired as president of the Indiana Jewish Community Relations Council, following four years of service. Mr. Rosenfeld was also elected president of Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley and he served as treasurer. On March 26, 1961, he was appointed to the Public Welfare Committee of the Council of Jewish Federation and Welfare Funds. In 1965, he was honored at the annual law alumni banquet sponsored by the University of Indiana Law School, Bloomington, where he received his law degree in 1940.

He was born April 30, 1916, in South Bend and he lived in the area all of his life.

On. Nov. 20, 1941, in Hammond, Ind., he married Mildred Kodicek. She survives with a daughter LouAnn Dobbins with of a Granger; two sons, Frederick L. of Princeton, N. J. and Robert C. of Granger; seven grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Berebitsky of South Bend; and a brother, Louis Rosenfeld of Edinborough, Pa.

A brother, Nathan Rosenfeld preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery. There will be no visitation. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Bar Association, Fire Buffs Unit 511 Canteen Truck, B'Nai Yisrael Reconstructionist Congregation, and an active leader in Democratic politics for many years.
